Balussery is a small but fast developing town area located at the heart of Kozhikode district in Kerala state, south India.
There are Eight Grama Panchayats in the Block, namely Atholi, Balussery, Koorachundu, Kottur, Naduvannur, Panangad, Ulliyeri and Unnikulam.
The government offices are situated in the heart of the town. Branches of major banks and a government sub treasury functions here.Kerala State Electricity Board has a 33 KV substation (at Manjappalam),a division office/subdivision and a section office here.
Balussery Kotta
There is a temple in this place called Balussery Kotta - Vettakkorumakan Temple (just 2 km from bus stand ). The Manjapuzha River flows by the side of the temple. There are a number of small temples such as Ponnaramtheru Maha Ganapathy Temple, Chamundeswary Temple, Vaikundam Vishnu Temple, Chinthramangalam SreeKrishna Temple, Ellath Mookambika Temple & Narasimha Kshethram Nirmaloor.Thekkedathu Nagathan Kavu exist here. Kakkayam Dam site, power station, Vayalida hill station are also in the proximity.

Gireesh Puthenchery
Gireesh Puthenchery (23 September 1959 – 10 February 2010) was a noted Malayalam lyricist and screenwriter was born to Pulikkal Krishna Panicker and Meenakshiyamma in Puthenchery near Balussery in Kozhikode district (Calicut). His father was an astrologer and Ayurvedic practitioner and his mother was a Carnatic musician.
Ranjith Balakrishnan is an Indian film director, screen writer, producer and actor known for his work in Malayalam cinema. In the year 2001, Ranjith made his directorial debut with Ravanaprabhu, a sequel to Devaasuram. His directorial ventures Thirakkatha and Indian Rupee won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam in 2008 and 2011 respectively. Ranjith was born in Balussery in Kozhikode, Kerala. He graduated from School of Drama and Fine Arts, Thrissur in 1985.
